## Step by step

  1. **Log 8,000 hours.** Under a master electrician or a licensed maintenance electrician. Each supervisor signs an Experience Verification Form.
  2. **Mail the application and \$20.** The initial license is applied for by mail.
  3. **Pass the exam.** TDLR approves you to test after verifying the application.

## Maintenance or journeyman?

The hours are the same, and the journeyman license covers more work. The maintenance license makes sense when your experience comes from maintaining a facility rather than from construction, and when supervision by a maintenance electrician is what you have.
